Sorry!

Thanks to all who have contacted this website. I am sorry I have not been able to reply to all posts. I am, to put it mildly, in it up to my neck...
My excuse is that this business has grown out of hand since I started. I only wanted a handful of models when I started in February 2011 but by April 2013 I would have handled over 8,000! And another 4,000 in the pipeline. Perhaps I should have taken on more staff but the banks have been absolutley c**p over financial support. Despite the new schemes to help new businesses it is impossible to get funding from them. I owe a great deal (literally) to supporters who bought bonds or sponsorship. Their support has kept the project going.
So, I was barely able to pay for production let alone pay the wages of even one person to help me dispatch the orders. As for me, I have had to go back to work to pay my mortgage. Which does not give me a lot of time to even answer emails.
So, a big sorry to those who have not received models, replies, messages or even acknowledgement. I will continue to do my best and improve by systems so that mistakes happen less frequently. And, when I can afford it, I will get some help.
In the meantime, the rally and museum season is starting. I hope to see a few of you at the events I can get to. Please do not hesitate to drop in at my stall. It was a pleasure to see so many of our supporters at the MBF exhibition at Whitton (Twickenham) last Saturday. See you in Birmingham soon, at Aldridge and Wythall.
Best wishes to all members and supporters of the Forward Association!
    Derek Perry

I have now bought one of the newest models. Daimler 3225 (NDB-06) and have added this to my previous purchase Guy Arab 2548 (NGS-02). Beautiful models that certainly evoke all my childhood & teenage memories. However, having also seen most of the other models, there are TWO major faults. 1. All models have cream interior stairs. in real life these were dark blue. My Leyland PD2 (mfd by Gilbow Holdings) has the correct dark blue interior. 2. The five latest models have an incorrectly sized lower saloon front window. It was larger on the latter produced buses. Two faults that could have been better researched. My God, after waiting several years for models of the best looking buses in Britain ( including the Routemaster), I can still complain.

Thanks for your observations about the models. I am aware of most of the compromises we have had to make. The tooling for the moulds is SO expensive I can only make one version which is a compromise. So, the lower saloon front window ended up as the smaller version rather than the larger window on later models (which one writer said helped young boys look out of the front and pretend they were the driver). As for the interior, I was offered more colours but the paint job would have added to the cost. So that, and one or two other improvements, had to be abandoned. Nevertheless, I am glad you enjoyed (and bought!) the models anyway.

When I recently embarked on a resurection the 00 train layout I had originally built in the loft for my two sons in the 70's & 80's (now for my 3 grandchildren you understand!}, I decided to enhance the scene with some period buses and was disappointed not to be able to find many 1950's & 1960's Birmingham City Transport models which I remembered fondly from my own childhood/youth. Then along came Derek Perry and the aptly named Forward Models. What a delight!. I quickly ordered my first 'new look' tin front back in 2011 and waited very patiently for a year for it to arrive!(that is not a complaint! - it was well worth the wait). I have now just ordered a further 3 models and I am sure I will finish up with them all. I have spoken to Derek on a couple of occasions and have a great admiration for the work he is doing on this project. I would dearly love to see more models initiated, particularly the single deck Leyland used mainly on the 27 route (a bus I used to catch to school!) and also some Midland Red models currently not available such as the BMMO S12/14's (there are plenty of Midland Red coaches available and a very nice D9 but no single deck buses). I do however realise that the commercial logistics may prohibit such a venture. Please Derek, keep up the good work.

Thanks Gerry, for your encouraging comments. Future products are under consideration but I don't think I can produce them in the same was as before. The economics of the 'Standards' project mean a high capital outlay and a minimum order of 10,000 models! And, of course, sales to match. I would love to do the PS2 single decker - I went to school on the 27 to Kings Heath - but I don't think I could ever sell 10,000 of them, even if I painted a few pink and sold them for Barbie Doll collectors.

Just to thank Derek for the 2 further "New Look" models which arrived yesterday. I await further introductions (especially further exposed radiator versions) keenly. A Daimler CVD6 would be most welcome. I don't feel so strongly about the WMPTE versions, if only because the PTE failed, in my view, to uphold the legacy of BCT. After all, when you have been used to the best, anything else is a letdown. Thanks once again, Derek

There will be a few CVD6s! They are already on order and I hope for delivery in Autumn. This will also mean I can produce a few in Edinburgh, Newcastle and Hull colours. We are going north!
